The new Telecomms Mast in Chislehurst High Street Car park
A number of residents have contacted us understandably very concerned about the new – and very tall at 27m – telecomms mast that has appeared with very little warning in the High Street car park. We understand some local residents may have received a letter about this a few days before its erection.
According to the agents for EE UK Ltd and H3G UK Ltd, “ Permitted development rights allow this temporary installation to be stationed for a period of up to 18 months without the need for planning consent or prior approval. A permanent solution is in the process of being secured…”
The letter to residents goes on to say “.. the installation is fully compliant with the public health and safety guidelines established by the ICNIRP” (independent commissioner).
The issue of telecoms masts is of course highly contentious; whilst we suffer from poor to even no connectivity in some parts of Chislehurst, large parts (including the car park) sit in Conservation Area and we all value the outlook from our properties; telecomms masts are not items of beauty.
