In yesterday’s The Times, 22nd April 2025, Diana Blamires’s article “Independents on councils care about people not politics” resonated strongly with our experience here in Chislehurst.
The article is behind a paywall, but these quotes are worthy of note:-

- “They simply argue for the best outcome for residents on a case-by-case basis.”
- “The number of independent candidates is small but it is growing — there are 461 standing next week, more than ever before. Voters are angry with the main political parties. It’s time to put your cross in the box for someone who will give you a local voice with none of the empty rhetoric.”

Elections are now taking place elsewhere in the country, but our local elections here in Bromley are not until May 2026.
