Residents of Chislehurst,
This is to let you know about a proposed plan by EE Ltd and Hutchison 3G Ltd for a replacement telecommunications site at 37583 Sainsbury’s, High Street, Chislehurst, BR7 5A.
Background: Recently, EE and 3’s temporary site in Chislehurst High Street car park was removed due to noise complaints from the generator. This, coupled with the decommissioning of their previous site at 3 High Street, has led to a loss of network coverage for the area. As a result, both mobile operators are seeking to urgently establish a new site to restore services for local residents and businesses.
Proposed Development: The operators have identified a potential new location on the rooftop of Sainsbury’s, High Street. The proposal includes the installation of:
- 6 antennas on tripod frames
- 4 transmission dishes on support poles
- 4 equipment cabinets
Why This Is Needed: This replacement site will help restore mobile coverage and data services in Chislehurst, ensuring the continued availability of communications for the area.
Please note this proposal is in addition to a 17.5 high Orion pole and ancillary equipment that is to be installed in the middle of Sainsbury’s car park by a different operator. Although the planning application for that was initially refused, it was overturned on Appeal. We understand they are currently going through the acquisition process and we do not have any timings for this yet. We are advised that, unfortunately, it is not possible to share the approved column as the design is not structurally capable of supporting both Cornerstone and MBNL’s equipment. This would require a much taller, bulkier structure (likely a lattice tower with multiple headframes) which would have a greater detrimental impact on the visual amenity of the surrounding area in comparison with the proposed rooftop solution.
If you have any comments or questions, or require any additional information, please let us know. We encourage you to be involved and we will share your feedback with the operators.
You will also have a chance to let your views be known when the application is summitted to the Council.
